A Universidad Católica procura continuar com a subida do seu desempenho no Campeonato Nacional, onde pela 25ª jornada defronta o Huachipato do seu antigo conhecido, Mario Salas.

Os Cruzados já deixaram de lado o sonho do pentacampeonato, para focar em um objetivo mais próximo como a classificação para uma competição internacional. Eles estão em 10º lugar com 33 pontos, a 2 unidades da classificação da copa. Eles ainda têm o jogo pendente contra o Unión Española, para que possam subir na tabela.

O Universidad Católica disputou seu último jogo como visitante contra o La Serena. No estádio La Portada, os comandados por Ariel Holan não tiveram piedade dos Papayeros e golearam por 4 a 0. Clemente Montes, Fernando Zampedri e José Pedro Fuenzalida bisaram para os tetracampeões.

O Huachipato teve um desempenho irregular na atual temporada e está na 11ª colocação com 29 pontos. No momento, eles estão longe da zona de rebaixamento, mas também da classificação para as copas internacionais. Na última partida, empataram em 1 a 1 com o Everton. Este jogo contra o Universidad Católica vai significar mais uma vez frente a Mario Salas. O Comandante conquistou três títulos como DT cruzado em 2016.
