São Paulo, SP, 26 (AFI) – Hoje é um dia especial ao torcedor palmeirense. A Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras celebra 109 anos de história, glórias e muitas conquistas. No dia 26 de agosto de 1914, um grupo de imigrantes e trabalhadores italianos decidiram fundar o Palestra Itália que depois transformou-se Palmeiras que atualmente tem como presidenta, Leila Pereira. A sua praça de esportes é o Allianz Parque com capacidade para 43.713 lugares.
DE PALESTRA ITALIA PARA PALMEIRAS
Depois de colecionar nas décadas de 20 e 30 do século XX uma série de títulos paulistas e conquistar uma quantidade relevante de torcedores, o clube foi obrigado a mudar seu nome para Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, em 1942, por ocasião da Segunda Guerra Mundial, já que o Brasil, governado pelo então presidente Getúlio Vargas, declarou guerra aos países do eixo: Alemanha, Itália e Japão e se alinhou aos países, Estados Unidos, União Soviética, Reino Unido, França, entre outros. Sua primeira partida com nome de Palmeiras, aconteceu no dia 20 de setembro de 1942, onde na oportunidade sagrou-se campeão Paulista com uma vitória sobre o São Paulo Futebol Clube no Estádio do Pacaembu.
