Wayne Rooney é demitido do comando do Birmingham

Campinas, SP, 02 – Ex-atacante da seleção inglesa e do Manchester United, o técnico Wayne Rooney foi demitido nesta terça-feira pela direção do Birmingham, clube da segunda divisão da Inglaterra, após 15 jogos. Na segunda, o time foi derrotado pelo Leeds por 3 a 0.

Rooney conquistou apenas duas vitórias em 15 jogos desde sua contratação, em outubro. O Birmingham estava em sexto lugar no campeonato quando o ex-jogador assumiu e atualmente ocupa a 20ª colocação, seis pontos acima da zona de rebaixamento, e está sem vencer há cinco partidas.

“Apesar dos esforços, os resultados não corresponderam às expectativas. Portanto, a diretoria considera que uma mudança na gestão é do interesse do clube”, afirmou comunicado do Birmingham.

Rooney substituiu o técnico John Eustace, que dirigia o time havia 15 meses. Antes de assumir o Birmingham, o ex-atacante estava no DC United, da Major League Soccer (MLS). Seu contrato com o time inglês era de três anos e meio.

PRÓXIMO JOGO DO BIRMINGHAM

O próximo jogo do Birmingham será contra o Hull, também da segunda divisão, pela Copa da Inglaterra, no sábado.
