A final estava prevista para 17h mas diante da grande quantidade chuva, no gramado do palco da final, o árbitro escalado pela Federação Maranhense de Futebol, Wallas Martins Lopes – assistido por Elson Araújo da Silva e Ivanildo Gonçalves da Silva, se reuniu com as diretorias do Sampaio Corrêa e do Maranhão, e visando manter a integridade física dos jogadores, se chegou à decisão de adiar para outra data a decisão.
A primeira opção para uma nova data seria o jogo no Castelão nesta segunda-feira, às 19h. Mas Federação deve confirmar a final ocorrer na terça-feira, às 19h30, no mesmo Estádio Castelão. Os clubes aguardam agora uma manifestação oficial da FMF para confirmar a nova data da primeira final do estadual.
O segundo jogo deve ocorrer dia 21 de abril 10h, no Castelão, em São Luis. Nas semifinais o Maranhão passou pelo Tuntum,1 a 0,1×2 (6 a 5), e o Sampaio eliminou o Imperatriz, 2 a 0 e 3 a 0. O Sampaio Corrêa briga pelo seu 37º titulo estadual, e o Maranhão tenta sua 16ª conquista. No ano passado o Maranhão foi campeão em cima do Moto Club, e tenta no bi neste ano.
O último título do Sampaio foi em 2022 na final contra o Cordino.
