Campinas, SP, 17 – Romário e Bebeto formaram uma das duplas mais importantes do cenário do futebol internacional. Com eles, a seleção brasileira conquistou o tetracampeonato mundial, em 1994, nos Estados Unidos. Mas, atualmente, o relacionamento entre dois ícones da história da modalidade está estremecida por causa de política.
Nesta sexta-feira, a relação entre os dois ex-atacantes ganhou um novo capítulo. Em entrevista, Bebeto disse ser triste falar sobre o tema, reafirmou a desavença por motivações políticas e comparou a amizade que tem hoje com a que havia entre eles na seleção brasileira.
“A gente tem uma história linda. Ninguém vai apagar isso. Eu sempre respeitei o Romário. A gente nunca brigou naquela época que a gente jogava, a gente nunca discutiu. Só no olhar a gente já se entendia. Infelizmente, agora, a nossa relação está estremecida um pouquinho. Principalmente da minha parte, porque que eu achei que ele não tinha razão para isso. Pelo contrário, quem tinha que ficar chateado era eu. Infelizmente por culpa de política. Ele era do Podemos e me levou. Aí ele foi embora do partido e nem me avisou”, explicou Bebeto.
Em maio de 2023, a polêmica veio à tona em um podcast, em que Romário chamou Bebeto de “traidor”. “(Bebeto) Foi parceiro, mas não é mais. Me traiu na política. Pulou de galho. Não consigo (me habituar com isso na política). Tem umas coisas que eu levo para sempre dentro e fora da política. Quando é com um cara que você gosta, conviveu e tem uma relação de amizade, em todos os sentidos, isso é triste”, afirmou o senador ao narrador José Carlos Araújo, o Garotinho.
O atrito teve origem nas eleições de 2022, quando Romário disputou o cargo de senador e Bebeto uma vaga como deputado federal, ambos pelo Rio de Janeiro. O presidente do América-RJ se reelegeu para o Senado Federal na chapa do PL, partido do ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro e do governador fluminense Cláudio Castro. Bebeto se lançou candidato, mas pelo PSD, que apoiou Rodrigo Neves (PDT) para o Palácio Guanabara. Não estar ao lado de Romário nas últimas eleições teria sido a gota d’água para a amizade.
