No dia 5 de janeiro, ao programa “Y Ahora Sonsoles”, do canal espanhol Antena 3, confirmou que estava na casa noturna Sutton na data do ocorrido, mas negou a agressão e alegou que não conhecia a mulher. As versões foram se alterando ao longo da evolução das investigações.
Ele disputou a Copa do Mundo do Catar até o meio de dezembro de 2022. Depois, voltou ao futebol do México, onde tinha contrato. Após ser preso, o Pumas rompeu seu acordo.
